Sharing access: co-investors, partners and your accountant
Invite a partner or family member as a co-investor, see what they can and cannot do, fix an invite that is stuck, switch between accounts, and get your accountant the reports they need.
Which kind of access do you need?
Doorvest has one way to let another person into your account: you invite them as a co-investor. There is a single level of access, and it is full access. There is no read-only role and no access to just one home. Use this table to decide what to do.
| Who | What to do |
|---|---|
| A partner, spouse or family member who helps run your homes | What to doInvite them as a co-investor. They see and act on every home in your account. |
| Two of you, each with your own Doorvest account | What to doInvite each other, then switch between the two accounts. See if you each have an account. |
| An accountant, CPA or bookkeeper | What to doSend them reports instead. See what to give your accountant. Invite them only if you are comfortable giving full access. |
Being a co-investor is about access to the account. It does not change who owns your homes.
What a co-investor can and cannot do
A co-investor sees your account as if it were their own. Before you invite anyone, the People & access tab shows this warning:
Heads up: co-investors get full access
Anyone you invite can view your properties, send messages, pay bills and work orders, and add or remove bank accounts and payment methods on your account. Only invite people you trust. You can revoke access at any time. They can also update the billing details on your account. A few things stay with you, the account owner:
- Inviting, re-sending to or removing co-investors.
- Signing a W-9 or any other tax document.
- Reserving a home, or signing the documents for a home you are buying.
- Using Add funds on an Action items task. The button is greyed out for a co-investor.
- Setting up or changing auto-replenish.
- Changing Let Doorvest move cash between your properties in your Wallet. A co-investor sees “Only the account owner can change this setting.”
- Seeing or changing your investor accreditation, which is hidden from them.
Messages a co-investor sends show their own name, not yours, so your Doorvest team always knows who wrote.
Invite a co-investor
- Go to Account and open the People & access tab. In the sidebar, Account is under Account & Settings; on a phone, the same list is under Menu.
- Under Co-investors & delegation, read the warning, then click Invite a co-investor.
- Type their address in Co-investor email. Use the email they sign in with, or the one they will sign up with if they are new to Doorvest.
- Click Send invite. You will see “Co-investor invited.” and we email them from success@doorvest.com.

You can have up to 10 co-investors at a time. Invites still waiting count toward that, so revoke an old invite to make room. You cannot invite yourself, or send a second invite to an address that already has one waiting or active.
Open People & accessWhat happens after you invite someone
Every invite starts as pending. The person gets access only when they accept it, and the line under their address tells you what they still need to do:
- Invite pending. They need to accept it from their Doorvest account. They already have a Doorvest account, so they accept from it. The email links them to the Co-investor invites page.
- Invite pending. They'll get access after signing up at doorvest.com with this email. The email links them to sign up. Once they sign up with that same address, the invite is waiting in their account and they accept it there.
- Active. They accepted and can act on your account now.
Fix an invite that has not been accepted
If an invite has not been accepted, work through these in order.
Check the inbox
Ask them to search their inbox, including spam, for an email from success@doorvest.com.Send it again
Click Resend on their row. You can send it again once every 60 seconds.Check the address
An invite only shows up for the account with exactly the address you invited. If they sign in with a different email, click Revoke and invite the address they actually use. If the two addresses are Gmail versions of the same inbox (one with a +tag), they see “This invite was sent to a different account” with a Sign out and switch accounts button, and you see “Heads up: this Gmail inbox has another Doorvest account” when you send it.
Remove someone's access
- Go to Account and open the People & access tab. In the sidebar, Account is under Account & Settings; on a phone, the same list is under Menu.
- Find the person and click Revoke. This works for an invite that is still waiting too.
- In Revoke co-investor access, click Revoke access.
It takes effect straight away. If they are looking at your account at that moment, they are moved out of it. They then drop off your list, and you can invite the same address again later.
Accept an invite someone sent you
- Sign in with the email address the invite was sent to. If you are new to Doorvest, use the sign-up link in the invite email with that same address.
- Go to Account and open the People & access tab. In the sidebar, Account is under Account & Settings; on a phone, the same list is under Menu. The invite is under Pending invites. The link in the email opens the Co-investor invites page, which works the same way.
- Click Accept. You are switched into their account. Click Decline instead to turn it down; they can send you a new invite later.

Switch between your account and theirs
Once you can act on someone else's account, you can switch from either of two places on your Account page:
- At the top of the page, the Viewing account card has one chip for My account and one for each account you can act on. Tap a chip to switch.
- On the People & access tab, Accounts you can act on lists the same accounts. Click Switch to this account on one. The account you are in shows Currently viewing instead.

- On a computer, there is also an account switcher at the top of the sidebar. Click it and pick an account.
- On a phone, there is no switcher in the menu. Switch from the Account page instead.
- The account you picked last is still selected the next time you sign in. To go back to yours, choose My account.
- If you have no homes of your own and can act on exactly one account, you go straight into that account when you sign in.
If you and a partner each have your own account
Each home's money, bills and paperwork belong to the account that holds the home. If your spouse or partner holds some of your homes in their own Doorvest account, you cannot pay those bills or make a contribution from yours.
- Each of you invites the other as a co-investor, and each of you accepts.
- To work on a home in the other account, switch into it (see switching accounts) and act there as if it were your own.
- Switch back with My account when you are done.
Things only an account owner can do, like signing a W-9, still have to be done by whoever owns that account.
Give your accountant or bookkeeper what they need
Because there is no read-only access, a co-investor can also pay bills and add or remove bank accounts. For someone who only needs your numbers, download the reports yourself and send them over.
- Open Ledger & docs and choose the Statements tab. Your monthly statements are listed there.
- For anything else, click Need a custom report? and pick an Owner statement, Cashflow report, Income statement or Rent roll.
- Choose the home, a date range such as Last Year or Year to Date, and a format: CSV, PDF or Excel. The report downloads, ready to send.
If you do invite your accountant as a co-investor, the full-access warning above applies to them like anyone else, and you can revoke their access at any time.
